February 15, 2013 The Wall Street Journal, a crown jewel in Rupert Murdoch’s media empire, has launched a mobile Website for the iPhone that continues its 360-degree embrace of digital media because the new business model for publishing. Starting this week, subscribers to WSJ’s digital package can access business news, analysis, insights, images and videos on WSJ.com on their iPhone, with a glance and feel that mirrors the publication’s highly popular mobile application. U.S. Bank Launches Mobile Payment Service
U.S. Bank has partnered with Visa, DeviceFidelity and Datacard Group to launch a mobile payment service for its BankFlexPerks Visa customers in Salt Lake City, Utah and Portland, Oregon. The U.S. Bank Go Mobile service will enable customers to pay for purchases using either the iPhone 4 or iPhone 4 S at participating Visa payWave retailers. U.S. Bank customers who qualify for the service can opt-in to receive a personalized U.S. Bank Go Mobile iPhone case equipped with NFC capabilities. The case also contains a battery that extends the phone’s charge time over 50 per cent. The NFC case enables consumers to just “wave” their phone at checkout to make a purchase order. “We have incorporated each of the feedback we now have received from prior pilots and our customer research into this latest offering and we’re excited to give U.S. Bank Go Mobile in these two markets,” said Dominic Venturo, CIO for U.S. Bank Payment Services.
Toronto Star rolls out mobile site to streamline reading experience
February 4, 2013 Canadian newspaper The Toronto Star has launched a mobile site to let consumers stay on top of daily news. The mobile site could be accessed at http://m.thestar.com/ and lets users make amends for the newspaper’s latest news. The mobile site is powered by Polar Mobile’s MediaEverywhere platform. “The Star had an existing mobile presence via native mobile applications – mobile Web is a natural extension of this mobile presence,” said Kunal Gupta, CEO of Polar Mobile, Toronto. “Their goal was to provide readers a best-in-class experience on several devices, which was made possible in the course of the new mobile Web page powered by MediaEverywhere,” he said. Fujitsu Mobilizes the Checkout Experience
Technology company Fujitsu has announced the My U-Scan and U-Shop mobile apps to personalize the customer’s shopping and checkout experience. Using the U-Shop app, consumers can scan items using a smartphone and add or remove items from their shopping list. Once finished shopping, they are able to use app’s payment functionality on the self-checkout or a cashier station, avoiding long lines. “The wide adoption of self-checkout proves that customers are empowered by do-it-yourself options in-store,” said Brian Yates, Director of Retail Product Marketing at Fujitsu America. “The U-Shop mobile application is moving the needle forward by helping customers shop for items at the mobile devices they use each day.” The My U-Scan mobile app works along with Fujitsu’s U-Scan self-checkout solution, and enables consumers to scan their mobile device on the self-checkout station to activate customized options reminiscent of preferred language, loyalty/frequent shopper number, electronic receipt options, preferred payment method, clerk assistance, and other personalized options.
Ny Times bolsters readership with BlackBerry 10 app launch
February 1, 2013 The Manhattan Times is streamlining the reading experience with a brand new BlackBerry 10 application designed and formatted for the device. The Manhattan Times have been investing loads of cash and time into mobile.
