March 12, 2013 New York’s Daily News has launched a brand new mobile application that ties its content with location to make news reading more contextually-relevant. The Daily News app is on the market totally free download on both iPhone and Android devices and combines the publication’s digital content with local resource information. MyCityWays is powering the local city guide section of the app’s content. “Daily News sought to boost its mobile growth by increasing use cases for consumers and highly targeted marketing opportunities for its advertisers,” said Puneet Mehta’s CEO/cofounder of MyCityWay, Big apple. “The media property desired to add value to its readers beyond its great editorial content by also providing real-time location-based services and knowledge,” he said. “Daily News also sought to enhance local advertising revenue and desired to provide new opportunities for advertisers and sponsors to connect to readers in contextually-relevant ways.” The Daily News claims to be New York’s biggest newspaper, and is the fifth-largest daily newspaper circulated within the U.s.. Guavus Raises Another $9m
Big data company Guavus has raised another $9m after a round led by new investors Goldman Sachs. It has also revelaed that the APAC region is top of its list of world targets. Translink Capital, an Asian VC firm, joined the round, adding to a protracted list of investors including Investor Growth Capital, QuestMark Partners, Artiman Ventures, Sofinnova Ventures and Intel Capital. The company received $30m in January to further develop its core data analytics products and scale its operations. It then announced the buyout of Neuralitic along side a partnership with Teradata. The corporate will continue with this aggressive growth strategy, with a patricular center around APAC. “Guavus has shown tremendous growth and innovation with carriers,” said Toshi Otani, MD of TransLink Capital. “With 40 per cent of the world’s mobile data traffic because of be carried over Asia-based networks by 2016 we predict APAC to be a robust marketplace for Guavus. Huffington Post streamlines reading experience with enhanced Android app
March 7, 2013 The Huffington Post has revamped its Android application with a design that emphasizes speed for speedy news reading. During the revamp, Huffington Post listened to its readers and located that the No. 1 thing users wanted was a faster reading experience. Millennial Report Highlights FMCG Mobile Ad Growth
Mobile advertising firm Millennial Media has released the Mobile Intel Report: Consumer Goods, the newest in its Mobile Intel series, produced in association with comScore. The report offers an insight into how consumers are engaging with FMCG (Fast-paced Consumer Goods)/CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) brands on mobile, and the way the field is responding to the challenge of reaching their audience. The report reveals that during the united kingdom, the FMCG vertical posted a 35 per cent average month-over-month growth at the Millennial Media platform in 2012. Food was the most important sub-vertical in FMCG within the UK, driving 32 per cent of advertiser spend on Millennial’s platform in 2012. This was followed by Cosmetics & Hygiene, with 26 per cent of advertiser spend in the FMCG vertical. UK campaigns utilised real-time location based marketing, store locators, post-click social media interaction and video creative, and 91 per cent of FMCG impressions within the UK came from smartphones. Globally, at the Millennial platform, mobile ad spend inside the CPG vertical grew 235 per cent year-over-year between 2011 and 2012.
